jaunty backports and things improved very much. New lines in /etc/apt/sources.list :

		<description>In regards to the /dev/raw1394 ownership issues. You might want to check udev rules and see if you have file 40-permissions.rules. In my copy of this file there is a line assigning the raw1394 to the disk group, in my case i just changed the group to audio resolving my issue. I know this is late posting hope it helps someone.</description>
