Pentecost Monday trip to Ruhestein, Black Forest

Last year’s biking season started early, this year’s late due to some cool may. But finally, Pentecost does us a favour and provides warm and sunny days. On saturday I’ve been at Rote Lache. Today I got up early and went to Baiersbronn by train. Then my bike knew its way to Achern via the Ruhestein pass.

Part of the way up to Ruhestein:

The Ruhestein hill, used for skiing during the winter months:

The ski jumping hill at Ruhestein:

Trail down to Ottenhöfen (seldom but sometimes I desire a mountain bike):

Seebach as seen from the viewpoint after leaving the Bosenstein forest:

Some figures for my personal reference:

  • Start at Baiersbronn 9:00 AM
  • Obertal 9:30 AM (following the street, not the “cycleway”)
  • Rest bench before Ruhestein 10:10 AM
  • Ruhestein (including some short rests due to the steep incline) 10:40 AM
  • Leaving Ruhestein 11:10 AM
  • Achern (the mandatory ice cream) 12:25 PM
  • Travel time and distance: About 3 hours and 36 kilometers
