From time to time the metadata tracker of the N900 (yes, I’m still using this excellent piece of hardware with its well crafted software) gets some hickup. This happens for instance when copying new ogg vorbis (or mp3) files to the device. It can be noticed by wrong song titles being displayed while listening to music.
The fix is quite simple:
- Log in to the N900 as superuser (“root”) via ssh.
- As outlined here and here, use the command tracker-processes -r to remove the metadata database.
- Start the media player and it will automatically rebuilt the caches.
The latter step requires a couple of minutes (depending on the amount of media files that need to be processed), so don’t do this in a hurry.
